Acupuncture

Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) are holistic medical systems developed through centuries of clinical practice and study. They are based on a detailed understanding of how the body’s interconnected systems influence health and disease. An initial session involves a comprehensive intake and assessment to identify the underlying patterns behind your symptoms. Using principles from both TCM and Classical Chinese Medicine, a personalized treatment plan is created. Treatments include acupuncture – the insertion of fine, sterile needles to regulate function, and may also include cupping, moxibustion (an herbal heat therapy),abdominal massage, Chinese herbal prescriptions, and dietary and lifestyle recommendations. While people notice changes quickly, acupuncture and related therapies generally work best with a course of treatments to provide deeper and lasting results.

FAQs

 What is acupuncture and TCM?

Acupuncture is part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), a complete medical system used for thousands of years. TCM focuses on restoring balance and regulating the body’s systems to relieve symptoms, address root causes, and support overall health.

What conditions do you treat?

TCM treats the whole person, not just a diagnosis, and may be helpful for nearly all health concerns except medical emergencies.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has published a list of conditions for which acupuncture has been shown to be effective or beneficial. You can view that list here

Does acupuncture hurt?

Most people feel little to no pain. Sensations may include warmth, tingling, heaviness, or a brief dull ache. Treatments are generally very relaxing.

Is acupuncture safe?

Yes. Acupuncture is very safe when performed by a licensed practitioner. All needles are sterile, single-use, and disposable.

Will I be prescribed Chinese herbal medicine?

Possibly. Chinese herbal medicine is another core part of TCM and may be recommended if appropriate for your condition. Herbs are optional and always discussed before prescribing. Costs vary depending on the formula, dosage, and length of treatment.
